  • To compile : 
    cc hello.c -o hello

    Switches:

  • -o : specify the output file name, w/out -o, the output file will be a.out by default
  • -S : generate assembly code (ex hello.s)
  • -O : optimize the code (ex -O2), the compiler will try to optimize the code maintaining the same functionality
  • -g : generate debug information (ex hello with gdb)
  • -Wall : enable all warnings
  • -Werror : treat warnings as errors
  • -std=cXX : specify the C standard to use (ex -std=c11, -std=c99, -std=c89)
